International Business - Georgia

The country of Georgia is located next to the Republic of Russia and was a part of the old Soviet Union. After the end of the cold war, it succeeded and became a independent country. As of late, Georgia has moved away from the Communist model of Russia and more toward a free market system.

The business attire is much like America today. A suit and tie is customary for men who work in high powered white collar jobs, and a nice pair of pants and a collared shirt for more casual clothes. For women a long skirt and a nice shirt.

Shaking hands is customary and it is considered impolite to come late to a meeting, however most meetings start late due to polite small talk with the people involved. Also, gift giving is customary. A small gift like a bottle of wine or chocolates is very much appreciated.

The main imports of Georgia are natural gas, oil and steel machinery parts. They get the majority of their imports from Russia. The main export of is wine and iron ore. The country of Georgia has one of the largest vinyards in the world and Georgian wine is revered all over Asia.

The country of Georgia uses Lira. At this time one Georgian Lira can fetch 1.657878 US Dollars.

No country is perfect and Georgia is no exception. Unfortunately one of the markets in Georgia is prostitution. Who says business doesn’t mix with pleasure.
